How Services works

Services is the contractor list, and it works differently from a review site.

Receipts, not stars

A five-star rating from a stranger says almost nothing. This says something:

Pheasant Run. Roof replaced, March 2025. $14,200. Would use again.

Dated, local, priced, from somebody whose street is known. That is what is actually useful when a large amount of money is about to be spent, and no review site provides it.

Every entry asks for the work, roughly when, roughly what it cost, and whether the neighbor would hire them again.

One page per company

A company is listed once. When a second neighbor has used the same company, their experience is added to that company's page rather than creating a duplicate listing. Over time a page accumulates several jobs at several prices across several years, which is far more informative than any single review.

The rules

• Only members add entries, and only about work done at their own house.
• Businesses do not add themselves. A neighbor listing a company is worth more than a company listing itself.
• Placement is not for sale. The order is driven by how many neighbors have used a company, and nothing else.
• Prices are approximate and go stale. They are a sanity check, not a quote.
